You might say I have an intense personal relationship with chocolate.
Servers at my favorite restaurant laugh when taking my dessert order because, and I quote, “It’s like watching a love triangle on Days of Our Lives.”
My usual dessert pick is the Chocolate Tart, a piece of ganache-filled goodness I nicknamed “My Steady Boyfriend” because if it could wear pants, I’d marry it. It comes with caramelized bananas and usually
chocolate bourbon ice cream. I’d swear undying devotion to it if it weren’t for … “My Secret Boyfriend.”
That’s the Chocolate Hazelnut Bars – so sweet, so tempting. I call them my My Secret Boyfriend because they’re only ever on the menu when the tart isn’t there … and I just can’t seem to resist them.
I have celebrated milestones with one or the other for years, and I love them. But this year was a big birthday and I’d heard about the 6-inch Chocolate Layer Cake from The Chocolate Room in New York.
It’s cake so good that it got a write-up in O Magazine and even has its own 30-second video. Now that I needed to see … (view video). Of course after I saw it, I needed to taste it. The price-tag made it a one-time only indulgence, but it was so very worth it. I even shared it with three of my best friends.
OK, I shared half. Like I said, I have an intense personal relationship with my chocolate – not everything should be for public consumption.
