I still have a National Novel Writhing Month Day 1 hangover. No alcohol involved, but I do have a guilty pleasure that I indulge in while writing …
You know those round gold-foil-wrapped candies? The ones with creamy chocolate and hazelnut and the little wafer shell? Yeah, those things over there on the left.
Ferraro Rochers, a.k.a. the food of the gods. (Well, the gods who are chocoholics and don’t have nut allergies.)
They’re my writerly guilty pleasure. Sort of a weakness and a romance writing muse all in one little bundle of bliss.
I’ve been known to tell people that my characters like them, and I’m just the delivery mechanism.
In stores you mostly find them in packs of 3 or boxes of 12. But a friend once got me a gift box of 48 for my birthday.
The picture at left is of all that remained of them after a week. (I use the case to store earrings now.) I’m kind of shocked and proud that they lasted that long, to be totally honest.
They were so, so bad for my waistline, but I did a lot of writing around then. Ever since, I’ve been convinced there’s a connection.
My goal for NaNo is to allow myself one piece at the start of a writing stint as encouragement, and another at the end as a reward. (That may or may not have gone by the wayside last night, hence the hangover).
I guess I’ll have to count my words and my calories.
Here’s hoping I can stay strong! Or at least that the FR treats fuel sensational story-telling. Maybe one of the characters in my story will reveal a love for them before this romance is over. Then indulging would be justifiable, right?
So that’s my guilty pleasure in a nutshell. What’s yours?
