NaNoWriMo – Mad Libs Edition!

October 13, 2016 by Taylor Reynolds Leave a Comment

November is National Novel Writing Month and I’m hosting a fun challenge in honor of NaNoWriMo!

NaNo will kick off before we know it and you’re invited. We’re taking the idea behind Mad Libs and turning it into a longer writing project. Participating authors will be given a random assortment of tropes, settings, characters and/or concepts, and will write their NaNo story from those guidelines.

For example, a romance author might end up with:
Tropes – friends to lovers and wrong side of the tracks
Setting – Caribbean
Character – doctor
Concept – billionaire

And off you’d go to write that book!

I have lists that I’m working from already and they are separated by genre (western, espionage, sci-fi, etc), but I would be more than happy to add your suggestions to the lists as well. The lists will be run through a randomizer and authors who sign up will receive an email from me with their randomized challenge outlined.

All challenges will include at least two tropes and one character, but if you’d like more, we can pile them on for you!

There’s no prize at the end of this, other than a cyber-hug or in-person high five from me next time I see you 😉 But I thought this would be a fun way to dive in to NaNo with something brand new that hasn’t been stressing you out for months.

Email me (( taylor.reynolds@gmail.com )) if you would like to participate and I’ll begin sending out the challenges on Monday, October 24th. I’ll keep track of everyone and check in with you periodically through November to see how you’re doing.

If you have questions, let me know!
