Words! I love’em. Usually, I stick with my comfort zone – genre writing, business letters, tons of email and texts between friends. But sometimes I’m bludgeoned by the poetry muse and I find I just gotta get it down. Such was the case this week, when Calliope kept me up past my bedtime, forcing me to jot the below down. I’d call it more aspirational than epic, but it pleased me to write it and I’m happy to share here.
What about you? Are you an occasional poet?
True North
I set my intention
True north
To land among the stars,
Plotting my course
In a straight line,
The shortest distance between two points, flat and bodiless.
I burn in the atmosphere and drop to earth,
Scorched and discouraged.
Each night, I see the stars again, bright, from the cozy nest of my bed
Each day, they twinkle beneath my eyelids
Come, they glitter
Dance with us.
I launch again, fall again, yearn again, try
Again.
Wiggling a zig zag, figuring a new path,
Big dreaming, a niggle of fear, a giggle of hope.
Digging deep into my possibles, my likelies, and my will.
I launch again, I falter, I course correct with a laugh and a hell yes
and an I’m doing it.
I burn brighter than the sky.
I arrive at my destination, dazed, dazzled with delight. I dance. I
decide to stay.
Once more, I set my intention.
I love it! Very inspiring, and beautifully written. Thanks for sharing! ?❤
