Today is the release day for my friend Lori Ann Bailey’s book, Highland Deception. I am thrilled for her and so excited to read it. Since my Blog post is on her release day, I definitely had to mention it! If you love Scottish Historical, check it out.
Writing with Friends
This weekend, I was fortunate to spend time with friends and fellow writers. Both Saturday and Sunday, we wrote, chatted and saw a movie. It was a lot of fun, but it was also productive. I had found myself stuck in writing and in a chat that lasted no longer than 10 minutes, my problem was solved and my story moved forward.
I feel so lucky to have friends that also love to write. We keep each other motivated, we laugh, we support each other and of course, we write. Times like this make me realize how lucky I am to be part of such an amazing community of writers. Writing can be a lonely profession, but the people of RWA, WRW and the Romance on the Rocks Blog make it feel like I am not alone in writing.
On the way home from writing yesterday, I was thinking about my first WRW meeting. I walked into a crowded room in the suburbs of DC and bashfully asked if this was where the Washington Romance Writers meet. I didn’t think of myself as a writer, but they immediately welcomed me. At lunch, I found myself at a table with several people talking about my writing. Little did I know that these writers would soon become good friends.
I joined a weekly writing night that was started by J. Keely Thrall. Since then, I have been able to write so much more and more productively. In a world of social media and so many digital connections, it is so nice to meet once a week and focus on what we all love to do. Write!
If you are writing, seek out others that write in your genre. If you can’t find them, join writers in any genre. If you are too far from a writing group, start your own or join an online chapter. The support and friendship is incredible. Find your writing group, find your tribe and give back as much as you get.
Have a great week!
P.S. Thank you J. Keely Thrall, Lori Ann Bailey, Taylor Reynolds, Kathy Seidel, Julie Halperson, Deborah Barnhart, Mackenzie Lucas and Evie Owens for a great weekend of writing!
