Family, Friends & Festive Fun!
Each year, we embark on a fun driving trip sometime in November or December. We load up the car and set out on a week or more of visiting family and friends in several cities. Last year, we covered Knoxville, Nashville, Louisville, Cincinnati and Columbus. This year, we are going the opposite way through Pittsburg, Cleveland, Sandusky & Cincinnati.
The trip is always fun because we get to see so many people, most of which we do not get to see often. We also do some shopping and stock up on food favorites from some of our favorite local restaurants. It is always a nice distraction from the busyness of the rest of the year and we try to limit work e-mails and just enjoy time with family and friends. The internet is also limited to travel time. Although, I have command central set-up in the car while my husband drives. This is where I map out the journey! In fact, we are on our way to Pennsylvania as I type this Blog.
Tomorrow, we will see two groups of dear friends. One set in Cleveland for lunch and the other group in Sandusky for dinner. We don’t get to Lake Erie very often, but I imagine that we will pick up tomorrow just where we left off. That is the type of friends they are. Certainly, there will be lots of laughs and catching up to do. Luckily, Facebook keeps us all in touch your rest of the year!
Then, we will head to Southern Ohio for lots of parties. It is my favorite time of year because I get to see our parents, siblings and in-laws. We have amazing food, but the conversation is what we really love. We laugh about the silliest things and reminisce about things that we have talked about a million times, but somehow still light up our faces with smiles. We see friends from our childhood and toast over martinis or Cabernet.
The last day, we take a day and a half to drive what should take a short 8 hours. It is precious time that I get to spend with my husband and we do whatever catches our attention. This year, we may see a movie. It is amazing how relaxing it is after a busy week of traveling. Thank goodness my husband loves to drive!
The close of the year is so busy for all of us, so I invite you to take a minute to focus on what is so important…Family & Friends. Wishing you Peace and Happiness wherever the new year takes you!
